Biography
Kristina Thurkill is an artist living and working in Flint, Michigan. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) focused on Drawing and Painting. In her work, Kristina uses figuration as a means to explore issues of representation and the complex nature of her identity. She does this by making watercolor portraits based on photographs that depict people of color. These figures are often placed in the center of the image as key focal points surrounded by a blank environment. She began exploring these figural concepts through exhibiting work at the Midwest Mixed Conference, which explores and celebrates mixed-race identity through visual art.
